CampingCalc is a project by Antom Media UG from Regensburg, Germany – we're camping enthusiasts and a software company. Put the two together and you get this site.
How the idea came about
The idea came after a camping trip through South Korea. In the evenings we were more often at the calculator than at the campfire: will the battery last until morning if the fridge runs all night? How long will the propane last when it gets cold? And how much water can we still fill without being overloaded? The answers existed – scattered across forums, data sheets and half-finished spreadsheets. What was missing was one place where you simply enter the numbers and get a result you can follow.
Back in Regensburg we built exactly that: calculators that don’t just spit out a number but show the calculation path, work with realistic assumptions and are honest about their limits. The German original, campingrechner.de, came first; CampingCalc is the English edition with US units and regional defaults.
Who we are
Behind CampingCalc is Antom Media UG (haftungsbeschränkt) from Regensburg, Germany, a software company with a soft spot for camping, van life and everything you need to calculate on the road. We build web applications and automations – and use that know-how to keep this site fast, light on ads and free of sign-ups.
Our principles
- Math you can follow. Every calculator shows its formula, a calculation path with the numbers used and a worked example computed with the same logic.
- Honest limits. Where a calculation cannot be reliable without vehicle or manufacturer data, we say so – for example for payload, towing capacity or electrical installations.
- No false precision. Typical parameters (efficiencies, depth of discharge, propane consumption) are marked as reference values and can be adjusted.
- Privacy. The calculators run in your browser; inputs are never sent to us.
- Transparent funding. In the long run the site is meant to sustain itself through advertising and clearly labeled affiliate links – details under Advertising & affiliate.
Where we stand
Currently 31 calculators in seven categories are published, plus background articles in the Guides section. The catalog grows step by step – but only with calculators that solve a problem of their own rather than merely repeating a formula.
